Redfield Horse Sale

The Redfield Horse Sales were started in approximately 1967 and were held semi annually though out the years.  These grew to be one of the larger horse auctions in the Upper Midwest.  The fall sale has normally been a 2 day sale with draft horses and equipment one day and light horses the following day.

Market Report for May 1, 2001 Horse Sale

Big crowd on hand for the Redfield Spring Horse Sale at Aberdeen Livestock Sales, Co. 

A near capacity crowd filled the seats at Aberdeen Livestock Sales on a cold, windy day Sunday May 1 to witness 269 head of horses go through the ring for the Annual Redfield Spring Horse Sale.  Sale is sponsored by Gilbert & Zelda Lutter and family.  Horses displaying some usefulness and some eye appeal found very good demand.  Top horse of the day was a nice 7 year old Paint gelding consigned by Jason Reed of Faith, SD which sold to Dennis Klein of LaMoure, ND at $2,800.  Gary Bernhardt of Milnor, ND consigned a nice bay AQHA mare, Iris Commands, which sold to Lore Springer of Bradley, SD at $2,200.  A palomino 10 year old gelding consigned by Jason Reed sold at $2,150 to Gerald McGregor of Britton, SD.  An 11 year old bay AQHA gelding sired by Dox Outside Chance and consigned by Jacky Hormann of Graceville, MN sold at $1,750 to Michael Watson of Hitchcock, SD.  Jacky Hormann also sold a 10 year old gray mare sired by GBH Jet Poco Drift WD to Troy Chappell of Dickey, ND at $1,300.  Kurtus Jorgenson of Waubay, SD sold a nice 3 year old palomino mare to John Rondell of Waubay, SD at $1,800.  Jeremy Arndt of Graceville, MN sold a nice 9 year old bay gelding sired by Star Rey Lena at $2,100 going to Lesley Braun of Mina, SD.  Doris Schocker of Summit, SD sold a 5 year old grullo mare sired by Millers San Stetson at $1,700 going to Ben Erickson of Bismark, ND.  Tory Mason of Frankfort, SD consigned a nice 4 year old red roan mare, just nicely started, which sold to Gene Jorgenson of Graceville, MN at $1,375.  Dana Sippel of Pierpont, SD sold a 5 year old red dun mare sired by Ole Mans Streak at $1,050 to Shawn Wik of Webster, SD.  A 10 year old grade sorrel gelding consigned by Justin Murray of Perkins, Oklahoma sold to Bruce Prines of Sisseton, SD at $1,000.  Bruce also purchased a 3 year old sorrel Paint gelding consigned by Kurtus Jorgenson at $800.  Lutter Quarter Horses sold a 3 year old bay gelding sired by Dox Outside Chance, just nicely started at $1,125 going to Dan Weber of Raymond, SD  A 4 year old mare sired by Dox Outside Chance and out of a daughter of Haidas Little Pep consigned by the Lutter's sold to Le'Ann Bender of Mobridge, SD at $900.  A 10 year old unregistered buckskin mare consigned by Jacky Hormann sold to Randy Walford of Watertown, SD at $875.  Kurtus Jorgenson consigned a 3 year old buckskin mare sired by TKM Siesta Frost which sold to Corey Anderson of Webster, SD at $800.  A 3 year old gray gelding sired by Katamay Jack and consigned by Jerry Gilmour of Faulkton, SD sold to Lee Layton of Leola, SD at $700.  An unregistered roan gelding consigned by Tim Block of Paynesville, MN sold to Bruce Prins at $950.  Bruce Prins also bought a 3 year old sorrel gelding consigned by Abby Jorgenson of Waubay, SD at $800.  Mike O'Connell of Mobridge, SD sold an unregistered bay gelding to Marv Jira of Plankinton, SD at $1,050.  Mike O'Connell also sold a Paint gelding to Dawn Stevens of Faulkton, Sd at $700.  The pony division was topped by an attractive POA pony, just barely started consigned by Gary Johnson of Hendricks, MN and selling to Raymond Nelson of Lake City, MN at $875.  A black and white mare pony with 60 days riding consigned by Kurtus Jorgenson sold at $425 to Rita Nelson of Florence, SD.  A well broke saddle mule consigned by Mike O'Connell sold at $775 to Carol Monnen of Twin Brooks.  Draft horse teams found good demand.  A team of Belgian geldings consigned by Jason Ohm of Ree Heights, SD sold for $1,500 each going to Sebastian Bitz of Napoleon, ND.  A team of 13 year old Belgian mares consigned by Walter Fleer of Hoskins, Neb. sold at $825 each to Mike Keating of Iroquois, SD.  A team of Percheron mares, 19 years old, and consigned by Amanda Boulais, of Mina, SD sold at $650 each to Scott Coughlen of DeSmet, D.  Brady & Wendi Rinehart of Highmore, SD sold a Percheron mare for $525 to Ryan Smith of Amherst, SD.  Auctioneers for the sale were:  Gilbert Lutter, Terry Schlagel, Joe Lutter, and Bryan Lenocker.

Three hours of tack sold outside in the morning with a nice assortment of buggies, wagons, harness and other horse related equipment.
